Full Job Description

Auria is looking to hire a Principal Cloud Architect in Colorado Springs, CO, to support the Sace Development Agency (SDA) Advanced Fire Control Ground Infrastructure (AFCGI) program. This person will own responsibility for designing, implementing, and managing the program’s cloud infrastructure to ensure scalability, reliability, and security. This role includes driving the adoption of best practices, emerging technologies, and cloud-native architectures to optimize the cloud environment. This role requires excellent technical, communication, and collaboration skills, as this individual works closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and shape the design of assigned systems. This position may support other Auria programs (including classified programs) as identified by Auria program management.

This is position is contingent upon award.

Primary Location: 1755 Telestar Dr., Suite #400, Colorado Springs, CO 80920

  • Work Model:  Hybrid (In-Office 3 Days a Week)
  • Travel:  20%

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead Cloud Design and Deployment – Lead the design and implementation of cloud architectures, ensuring alignment with business goals and technical requirements. Provide technical leadership and guidance to a team of cloud architects and engineers.
  • Develop and Lead Cloud Infrastructure strategies – maintain cloud infrastructure strategies, roadmaps, and standards. Evaluate and recommend cloud technologies, services, and tools to improve efficiency, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Continuous Improvement – Identify technical debt, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement in existing systems, proposing and implementing solutions to optimize performance, scalability, and maintainability.     
  • Documentation and Communication – Produce essential system documentation and effectively communicate complex technical details to various stakeholders, ensuring clarity and understanding.
  • Risk and Performance Management – Identify potential system risks, devise mitigation strategies, and monitor system performance metrics, making adjustments as needed.
  • Mentorship – Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers and team members, fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Collaboration and Continuous Improvement – Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, stay updated with industry trends, and incorporate feedback for ongoing system refinement. Liaise with stakeholders, including customers and end-users, to gather feedback and ensure the system meets operational requirements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current U.S. Government TOP SECRET with SCI eligibility security clearance (requires U.S. Citizenship).
  • Senior Principal Engineer (Engineer Level 5): Typically, a Bachelor's degree and 14 or more years of experience or a Master's with 11 or more years of experience
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing cloud solutions as a cloud architect or similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure. Proficiency in infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, microservices, and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Solid understanding of networking, security, and compliance principles in cloud environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, showcasing the ability to guide teams towards common goals, resolve conflicts, and foster collaboration in high-pressure environments. Experience working in an Agile/Scrum team using tools to assist system development, such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively, with a track record of identifying root causes and implementing robust solutions.
  • Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders clearly and effectively, facilitating understanding and alignment across diverse teams.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience implementing cloud infrastructures in complex DOD systems.
  • Knowledge of software-defined networking (SDN) and virtualization technologies, complementing cloud infrastructure expertise with proficiency in network optimization and resource utilization.
  • Proven leadership experience, including mentorship and guidance of technical teams, showcasing strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Knowledge of software-defined networking (SDN) and virtualization technologies, complementing cloud infrastructure expertise with proficiency in network optimization and resource utilization.
  • Proven leadership experience, including mentorship and guidance of technical teams, showcasing strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Active engagement in industry conferences, seminars, or community events related to cloud computing, demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum team using tools to assist system development, such as Jira and Confluence.

Salary Range:  $160,000 - $215,000
