The Colorado Health Institute (CHI) is seeking a dynamic and motivated Director to join its Research, Evaluation, and Convening team. This group of professionals works to improve the systems that influence people’s health and well-being. As a nonprofit public health institute, CHI provides resources for people seeking to make those systems more effective and equitable. We ask critical questions, conduct research, evaluate policies, make sense of complex issues, and support others to reach actionable solutions.
In this role, you will lead the design and implementation of innovative research initiatives, data strategies, evaluation frameworks, and convening efforts to provide expert analysis on complex health and policy issues and ensure high-quality recommendations for programs and policies.
As a leader, you will mentor staff, foster collaboration across projects, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality work. You will represent CHI publicly and cultivate strong stakeholder relationships to improve health outcomes in support of CHI’s mission of strengthening communities and systems with trusted analysis and collaborative solutions to improve health.
Responsibilities
- Design and oversee innovative, applied research, evaluation frameworks, and data strategies to address health and policy challenges.
- Manage multiple projects, including staffing, budgets, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring high-quality results and client satisfaction.
- Provide expert analysis on complex health and policy issues, offering actionable recommendations for programs, policies, and funding.
- Develop and review clear and accessible reports, presentations, and publications tailored to diverse audiences.
- Represent CHI through public presentations, media engagements, and external relationship-building with key stakeholders.
- Mentor and support team members, providing feedback, coaching, and professional development opportunities, managing employment issues as needed.
- Cultivate partnerships and maintain a strong portfolio of clients to support CHI’s mission and revenue goals.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion internally and through external projects, fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment.
- Ensure compliance with project contracts, reporting requirements, and organizational policies.
Requirements
Competitive candidates will have demonstrated:
- Expert critical and strategic thinking skills.
- Extensive experience leading multiple research and/or convening projects simultaneously. Proven ability to establish and implement strategic vision, develop work plans, multitask, and deliver high-quality work on time and within budget.
- Proven ability to develop, maintain, and grow strong relationships with clients and external partners in health, government, and/or consulting environments, including experience working within or on behalf of large agencies and organizations.
- Expert writing, facilitation, and presentation skills, including experience communicating and synthesizing complex ideas into clear, easy-to-understand concepts to broad audiences.
- Demonstratable subject matter expertise in diverse health-related public policy initiatives and priorities, proving an expert understanding of relevant local, state, and national trends and issues.
- Extensive experience guiding, supervising, and supporting team members, providing constructive feedback, mentoring, and training to enhance performance and achieve professional growth.
- Commitment to recognizing and honoring each person’s unique identity, ensuring work products affirm the diverse backgrounds of all people and embody inclusivity and cultural congruence.
- Demonstrated success in building and leading culturally diverse teams and environments, applying cultural competence, humility, and responsiveness to expand an inclusive and respectful environment.
- Bilingual or multilingual fluency is preferred but not required.
- Must work from CHI's Denver office at least two days per week, with additional in-person presence as needed.
Experience and Education
- PhD in relevant content area is preferred but not required.
- Minimum of seven years of relevant experience directing and performing research, convening, and/or advanced analytic work.
Benefits
A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is $118,000 to $137,000 per year.
Individuals are not typically hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation determinations are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each situation and by considering unique skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and organizational needs.
