Your purpose:

The Director of Accounting will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing Naked Wines' accounting operations. This senior position requires strong technical accounting skills and making critical decisions on accounting treatment and processes to comply with Naked Wines accounting standards and ensure that the books and records of the company are maintained in compliance with US GAAP. They will lead the accounting team by managing the close process and internal control environment. They will be the lead accounting partner for financial operations and other cross-functional operations. The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional with a proven track record of managing accounting functions, optimizing financial performance, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

To nail your job, you will:

  • Be responsible for upholding the company’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Oversee and coordinate the US domestic financial statement close processes monthly, quarterly, and annually, while providing insights into results to stakeholders across the company.
  • Develop a well-integrated, action-oriented team that encourages open communication, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Manage and coordinate the relationship with key external professional advisors – specifically external auditors, tax advisors (covering various tax filings), and banks.
  • Maintain highly technical accounting knowledge and decision support in evaluating judgmental areas of accounting. Ability to understand and interpret accounting guidance and apply it effectively, including fair value and impairment guidance under US GAAP.
  • Be responsible for the assessment of technical accounting impacts of new standards, including the development of necessary Naked Wines procedures and implementation plans.
  • Provide accounting perspective and support to senior leaders. Maintain collaborative and proactive communications with business partners while maintaining integrity and compliance with accounting policies.
  • Ensure financial controls are operating effectively including ownership of SOX controls. Ensure financial controls over systems and processes are properly functioning and sign off on control effectiveness quarterly per SOX guidelines. 
  • Manage interaction with external and internal auditors evaluating controls and testing balances. Responsible for overseeing robust and timely balance sheet reconciliations and completion of supplemental schedules for footnote disclosures
  • Oversee local/state sales and state/federal excise tax filings to ensure on-time and accurate completion.
  • Support the Naked Wines Payroll function ensuring timely and accurate processing of payroll
  • Be responsible for leading the performance, growth, and development of the accounting team.
  • Oversee the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handle discipline and termination of employees per company policy when necessary

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a Financial Accounting role.
  • 3+ years of people management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
  • Qualified Accountant (CPA, CA, or equivalent recognized professional qualification)
  • Big 4 professional experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP, SEC reporting and accounting, and SOX compliance.
  • Extensive and proven experience in evolving and developing processes, controls, and systems in support of US-listed company requirements.
  • A good working understanding of industry best practices.
  • Ability to explain complex accounting and finance principles to non-finance colleagues.
  • Strong and proven ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial statements.
  • Solid planning, organizational, and project management skills with the ability to multi-task and assimilate and interpret new information quickly.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality work within tight reporting time frames.
  • Operates at the highest level of professionalism and personal integrity.

  • $130k-$140k annually, DOE
  • Annual Bonus based on company performance
