Terran Orbital is seeking an experienced Sr Manufacturing Engineer, with a focus on propulsion systems to join our growing team. Reporting to the Director of Manufacturing, the Sr Manufacturing Engineer will develop and implement optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. This role will be supporting manufacturing issues on existing product designs and new satellite mechanisms early in the design phase, providing critical design for manufacturability input and supporting testing of these assemblies, while developing and implementing the plan to move from design/test into build/production.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Sr Manufacturing Engineer role is responsible for developing the fluid systems to enable high performance and highly manufacturable interplanetary vehicles
  • Execute design for manufacturability changes to enhance production efficiency
  • Evaluate propulsion designs and solutions as they develop against key impacted vehicle attributes
  • Work with downstream Propulsion sub-systems, and upstream Vehicle attribute simulation teams to identify model requirements (interfaces, fidelity and flexibility, accuracy, and performance)
  • Design and implement the production floor layout, as it relates to manufacturing flight hardware. Design for modularity and adaptability, with an eye for scaling with time and product evolution.
  • Develop production procedures/processes and manage the transition of components and module assemblies from development to production.
  • Drive the first builds of flight hardware and work with a manufacturing team to establish a production line
  • Coordinate and execute development, qualification, and acceptance testing of flight hardware
  • Design test equipment required to properly proof test and leak check system
  • Identify capital tooling and work center capability needs and lead the efforts of standing up key production capabilities.
  • Work closely with development and design engineers, internal machine shop, and external vendors to make parts that are designed for manufacturability, reliability, and source-ability, etc.
  • Lead team in production readiness reviews for transition from development into full-rate program production.
  • Advise team members on technical decisions related to the team’s product and act as responsible manufacturing engineer on non-conformances and work instructions.
  • Resolve and analyze manufacturing and test discrepancies, while interfacing with the quality team (resolving issues for design, fabrication, and assembly).
  • Drive continuous process improvements to focus on cost reduction in every element of the production processes.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with existing processes or products and makes modifications and improvements as needed.
  • Act as point of contact in daily and weekly program and production meetings and provide updates to leadership as required.

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other related discipline and/or 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with propulsion systems
  • Design software experience (AutoCAD or SolidWorks preferred)
  • Have familiarity in Electrical, Thermal, Control domains and internal combustion engines
  • Have experience with at least 1 major Propulsion Subsystem, with working knowledge of other sub-systems

Salary Range $105,000-$130,000

            

Your actual level and base salary will be determined case-by-case and may vary based on the job-related qualification, knowledge, skills, education, and experience. Physical Demands

An employee must meet the physical demands described to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. In performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to sit or stand for long durations of time, in addition to bending, reaching, and walking. This would require the ability to lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. This position is generally sedentary, with substantial computer usage.

Work Environment

The job operates in a professional office environment but in a manufacturing company. This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and scanners.
