Job Description

As our company has made great strides in our work to create plants that generate an optical signal when stressed, and detect that signal from various imaging platforms, we are now expanding our work to make that signal actionable for farmers. The successful candidate for this position will help design, build and maintain models that augment and complement our plants’ signals.

Goals

  • Manage deployment of mechanistic models concerning plant disease and insect pressure.
  • Create and assess performance of statistical models germane to plant disease and insect pressure. 
  • Work with other team members to create pipelines for data input and model output for both model types

Requirements

Skills Summary

  • Domain: Mechanistic modeling in an ecological or biophysical context, statistical modeling, machine learning, geostatistics
  • Software: Python, experience with common development tools and services, such as version control software, package managers, and CI/CD pipelines as well as with the Python scientific stack
  • Infrastructure: AWS
  • Interpersonal: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to present modeling work and relay underlying technical concepts to non-engineers 

Education, Experience, and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in STEM field, PhD preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience building and deploying models, ideally in industry and/or in a customer-facing context
  • Long term mindset and outlook toward building maintainable models
  • Knowledge of agronomic first principles and disease modeling in major row crops (i.e., soybeans, corn, etc.) is a huge plus
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn about remote sensing, genetics, and the global food system
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Benefits

The US base salary range for this position is $135,000 - $185,000 + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
