Full Job Description
Position Title: Sherman Elementary After School Program Instructor
Sharks Until Dark at Sherman Elementary School, through BACR, is a comprehensive program that runs from 2:05-6pm Monday-Friday, 12:50-6:00pm Wednesdays. We consider ourselves the second half of the school day and work in close collaboration with the teachers and administration of the school. In Sharks Until Dark, we offer enrichment classes, academic support, and youth development opportunities. Our program is a space for kids to be themselves, explore new ideas, get involved in their communities, become leaders, and make friends.
We are seeking committed and passionate After School Program Instructors to lead academic, physical, and enrichment activities as part of our Sherman Elementary After School Program. As a Program Instructor you will lead and mentor up to 20 youth in an afterschool setting. Benefits:
- Pay rate: $23 - $25 an hour DOE
- Flexible hours (20 – 25 hours per week)

- Schedule: Monday through Friday, afternoons until 6 p.m.; Off holidays, summers, and weekends
Minimum Requirements:
- Ability to work Monday – Friday until 6:00 pm for the duration of the school year
- Ability to pass criminal background check and TB test clearance
- Must have an AA degree or higher, 48 + college credits OR pass the SFUSD Instructional Aide Exam
- Must be able to communicate openly in a professional manner with students, parents, community partners, and BACR staff
- Experience and interest in working with elementary school-age children in an afterschool setting
- Willingness to learn and be coached with professional development related to youth development
- Excellent constituent relations (students, volunteers, teachers, parents) and customer service skills
- Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with diverse groups of people
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient computer skills (email communications and data entry)
- Reliable and steady access to transportation (public transportation /personal transport) to travel within a defined region on occasion
- Knowledge of age and developmentally appropriate activities, resources, teaching strategies, and activities
- Commitment to schedule
Preferred:
- At least 1 year experience working or volunteering with school-age children with special needs
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Experience with data entry, email communications and computer proficiency
