This position may be Fully Remote or Hybrid -- for hybrid, it can be located in our Santa Barbara, CA or Arlington, VA offices.

Join our team as a Senior Software Engineer and play a pivotal role in enhancing our public-facing software application and API services! In this exciting position, you will work closely with product owners and fellow engineering teams to analyze, develop, and sustain the software that empowers our clients to effectively request and access our SAR data products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, test, and maintain applications that allow for self-service of SAR data imagery request feasibility, scheduling, and product delivery. This includes both a public web site and a public API.
  • Provide key software architecture expertise to cross-functional engineering and product teams.
  • Provide ongoing leadership and mentoring for junior team members.
  • Maintain a customer-centric focus (and a high level of client satisfaction) through consistent and high quality feature delivery.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of professional experience developing highly available web services with server-side scripting languages, preferably Python
  • 10+ years of experience designing, developing, and testing intuitive and well-documented commercial RESTful APIs
  • 10+ years of experience designing, developing, and testing intuitive and well-documented commercial web applications, preferably in NodeJS and React
  • Knowledge of basic Cybersecurity principles and application of relevant security measures in everyday work
  • Demonstrated foundational understanding of software architecture, event-driven microservices, interface design, and automated testing patterns
  • Experience with database-backed applications and relational database concepts
  • Good communication skills, ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and willingness to learn new skills and technology
  • Develop documentation for operation and interface with software products
  • Support both internal and external customer needs
  • Participate in after hours on-call rotation schedule in response to emergency paging
  • One or more of the Desired Qualifications
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in the space industry
  • Experience building and supporting software that provides services directly to customers
  • Experience building custom GIS applications, STAC, or other imagery catalog APIs
  • Current security clearance
  • Deep DevOps/SRE-related background, such as:
    • Experience developing Kubernetes/Docker containerized services
    • Experience developing automated build and test pipelines in a CI/CD lifecycle
    • Experience with app/infrastructure monitoring and alerting principles and best practices
    • Experience with cloud and application security, access control, and identity management

Pay Transparency
This job posting may cover multiple career levels. To ensure greater transparency, we provide base salary ranges for all roles, regardless of location. Our standard pay ranges are based on the role’s function and level, benchmarked against similar growth-stage companies. Compensation may vary based on geographical location, as certain regions may have different cost-of-living factors. The final offer will also be influenced by the candidate's skills, responsibilities, and relevant experience.

Compensation Range

The Compensation Range for this role is $145,000 - $175,000.
