Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior PLM/Component Engineer to join our team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of quantum technology.  Initially, this individual will assist with the integration of a new PLM system into the Vector Atomics workflow. They will develop procedures and documents to ensure a successful NPI. Initially, the person will be the primary point of contact for all PLM-related questions. They must assist with the technical aspects of defining and managing a new PLM site.  In addition, they will train internal staff on the proper use of a PLM. After the initial launch, this role will expand to include adding compliance documentation and providing technical support for supply-chain issues.  The ideal candidate is a strong individual contributor who can take ownership of their tasks while also supporting the overall team goals.

Requirements

What You'll Do

  • Work with a cross-functional team of physicists and engineers to advance our in-house manufacturing capabilities for the next-generation quantum instruments.
  • Your role as a Senior PLM/Component Engineer is critical for managing and maintaining the integrity of all engineering and production documentation. This includes ensuring compliance with industry standards and supporting the overall quality management system.
  • Working in a team environment, this individual will lead the transition of R&D prototypes to fully realized OEM product lines with comprehensive manufacturing documentation maintained in a cloud-based PLM.  
  • Work with R&D engineer team to resolve supply chain issues and EOL problems. 
  • Work with vendors to minimize the impact of bottlenecks in manufacturing. 
  • Develop alternate sources and compatible drop-in replacements to reduce costs and provide flexibility in manufacturing. 
  • Lead the technical aspects of our supply chain effort. 
  • Working with the engineering department to realize compliance with regulatory standards such as RoHS. 
  • Works to continually improve existing products and production processes, including quality improvement, cost reduction and upgrades.

What We're Looking For

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and five (5) years of experience relevant to the manufacturing of electromechanical products.
  • A general understanding of electronics, mechanical, and optical components to assist engineering with procurement issues. 
  • Direct experience working with and maintaining PLM systems to support the production of precision electronics instrumentation
  • Must be willing and able to become the in-house PLM champion to drive our transition from a pure R&D group to an effective instrument manufacturer.
  • Must be comfortable managing complex BOMs that will include, but are not limited to, custom PCBs, cables, optics, lasers, fiber optics, and mechanical parts. 
  • Comfortable working as a bridge between R&D engineering and manufacturing.
  • US export control laws requires "U.S. Persons" including US citizens (born or naturalized), lawful permanent residents, and certain categories of refugees, and asylees.

Required Skills

  • Able to read and interpret a wide range of engineering documentation, for example, Bills of Materials, schematics, data sheets, mechanical drawings, and specification sheets. Must understand specifications for complex electro-mechanical components.
  • Experience using and maintaining cloud-based PLMs for the management of electromechanical products.
  • Background in the manufacturing of precision instruments. 
  • Must be able to produce readable and clearly written documentation. 
  • Comfortable working in an electronic laboratory and manufacturing floor.
  • Must be able to create and manage PLM support tickets, ECOs, etc. 

Nice To Have Skills

  • Experience using and administrating an Arena PLM for custom instruments that include a mix of electronic, optical and mechanical components. 
  • Direct experience with the initial setup of a PLM system for manufacturing would be a plus.
  • Experience with ISO 9001, and knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g., UL, and CE) is a strong advantage.  A background meeting compliance standard such as RoHS. 
  • Background with safety standards for OSHA and/or ANSI is a plus.

Pay Range

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, performance bonus, benefits, and equity. The pay range for this position is $110,000 to $150,000 including annual bonus. It's atypical to be hired at the top end of this range for the role, as actual pay is based on several factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience level.
