Job Summary: In this role, you will be the primary equipment engineer responsible for the specification, procurement, testing, optimization and maintenance of multiple laser scribing and edge-deletion tools on Caelux’s production floor and laboratory at our Baldwin Park facility. This role requires a deep understanding of laser scribing technology, precision equipment, and process improvement to ensure the highest levels of production efficiency, yield, and quality. While specializing in laser equipment, you will also have opportunities to learn and develop expertise with other tools such as vacuum deposition, wet film deposition, and optical test equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
· Developing (with support of process and controls engineers) engineering packages for acquisition, development, installation and bring-up of new laser tools. This includes RFQ, supplier scorecard, facilities matrix, safety analysis, build surveillance, factory and site acceptance testing, installation, controls tuning, spares planning, energy control plans, operation and maintenance SOPs.
· Supporting lab R&D team with design of custom laboratory laser apparatus.
· Continuously monitor performance of laser tools and implement optimizations for accuracy and throughput. Ensure calibrations and maintenance are executed properly per manufacturer specifications. Set spares policy and maintain spares inventory.
· Troubleshooting equipment, corrective maintenance, and upgrades of lab and fab equipment. Drive root cause and corrective action processes. Set and support preventive maintenance schedule.
Requirements
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in optical, electrical or mechanical engineering, physics, materials science or related field.
· Minimum 3 years’ experience working with industrial laser equipment, preferably in semiconductor, solar or other thin-film scribing applications.
· Strong understanding of optics fundamentals.
· Experience and skill with troubleshooting for laser equipment, e.g. beam profiling, test scribing, and other practical measurements; and troubleshooting mechanical system (e.g. motion-control/positioning hardware, cooling systems, etc). Understanding of galvanometer-based scribing and controls methods.
· Good engineering practices (safety, documentation, calibration)
· Good written and oral communication skills
· Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs. Must be able to work at bench-height lab equipment and climb short stepladders to access service access ports located approximately 6 feet off the floor.
Preferred skills and experience (not all are expected)
· Experience with fiber-coupled and free-space optics; UV, visible, and IR lasers; ns, ps, and fs pulsed lasers
· Experience with thin-film diagnostics e.g. four-point-probe, profilometer, transmission and reflectance.
· Proficiency in 2D CAD.
· Awareness of common industrial equipment-related safety standards such as NFPA 70, NEC/NFPA 79, and OSHA requirements.
· Familiarity with ISO and other manufacturing quality standards
· Familiarity with statistical process control concepts or demonstrated interest.
