About SEED:

The mission of SEED Schools is to provide students with a rigorous, college preparatory, boarding school model that prepares them for success in college and careers.

The SEED School of Los Angeles County (SEED LA) opened in Fall 2022 as California’s first urban public college preparatory boarding school, the fourth SEED school in the nation. Building a ninth-grade cohort each year and by the 2025-2026 school year, SEED LA will empower roughly 400 students in Grades 9-12 to achieve their full potential through our 24-hour learning environment. Our partnership with LA Metro provides a unique opportunity for students to advance their skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) while engaging in hands-on learning in the transportation field.

Our innovative model integrates a rigorous academic program with a nurturing boarding program that develops the whole child. This boarding school model provides a comprehensive solution to the challenges facing urban youth and serves as a prototype for expansion nationwide. All SEED students live on campus between Sunday evenings and Friday afternoons. Our model has proven successful: over 90 percent of SEED graduates have been accepted to four-year colleges and universities throughout the country and over 60 percent remain enrolled in college or have already earned college degrees.

Position Overview:

The SEED School of Los Angeles County is looking for a credentialed Evening School Psychologist to join its team. The Evening School Psychologist will directly support SEED LA scholars during the boarding program which is Sunday (7pm – 10pm) and Monday – Thursdays (2pm – 10pm). The Evening Psychologists will be responsible for a variety of duties including but not limited to: establishing, implementing and maintaining school-wide programs, policies and procedures, guiding students and families to resources in and outside of school, working alongside staff on evaluations and assessments, being a part of the crisis intervention team, providing counseling, assisting staff with behavior management, reporting identified abuse or neglect, case management duties, and assisting with the development of intervention plans and programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Selects, administers, scores, and interprets approved individual psychological, intelligence, and behavioral measures, using instruments and procedures approved by SEED LA to referred students.
  • Prepares evaluation reports utilizing the format approved by SEED LA; and writes reports that are meaningful to parents, teachers, and students.
  • Analyzes evaluation data, student records, and information pertinent to student learning, and formulated hypotheses and conclusions relating to learning and behavioral issues.
  • Participates in MDT/IEP committee meetings to interpret evaluation results to parents and school personnel.
  • Provide school-based individual and group counseling services to students with IEPs with Designated Instructional Service (DIS) counseling goals/needs
  • Provide advocacy, child welfare, and case management services to students
  • Assess, identify and provide clinical interventions to students with emotional, social, attendance and/or behavioral concerns within the general education population
  • Serves in a consultative role with designated personnel to offer prevention and intervention strategies related to learning and behavioral problems of students; provides consultation on an on-going basis to teachers, parents, and other school personnel to resolve students' learning and behavioral problems.
  • Develops appropriate interventions and strategies to assist individual students in academic growth, student life programming, and overall school adjustment.
  • Screens individual student cases for proactive academic and behavioral interventions.
  • Serves on the Crisis Team; helps families and schools manage crises such as death, illness, or community trauma.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and re-evaluates referred students with special programming needs; individual student evaluation services will require the school psychologist to include the following activities:
    • Gather background information via record review, staff, and/or parent.
    • Interviews and observes.
    • Selects test instruments valid for student and purpose of evaluation.
    • Administers assessments.
    • Analyzes and integrates evaluation results and provides instructional and programming recommendations.
    • Presents interpretation of evaluation to parent and team.
    • Submits typed reports.
  • Completes written psychological reports and parent conferences for each evaluation; and interprets psychological reports with parent/guardian.
  • Consults and collaborates with parents, school personnel, and others regarding mental health, behavioral, and educational concerns:
    • Reviews needs.
    • Observes children.
    • Interviews children.
    • Assists with developing interventions.
    • Reviews progress.
    • Provides support system to parent.
    • Helps others understand child development and how it affects learning and behavior.
    • Strengthens working relationships between teachers, parents, and service providers in the community.
  • Designs and develops student and classroom/student life interventions for preventing disorders, promoting mental health and learning, and improving education programs:
    • Consults with teachers, parents, students, and/or family, depending upon problem.
    • Identifies problems.
    • Develops strategies that involve all parties. Provides pre-referral interventions and strategies to SST.
    • Monitors progress, adjusting interventions as needed.
  • Maintains flexibility to respond to emergency referrals.
  • Provides meaningful, helpful suggestions to school personnel regarding behavior management, social skill development, conflict resolution, functional behavioral assessments/behavioral intervention planning, and instructional strategies.
  • Consults with parents regarding their individual student(s).
  • Participate in the development of staff trainings and professional development bringing knowledge of developmental social/emotional needs of students
  • Assists school staff in the development of appropriate academic and college plans for the student.
  • Acts as a psychological consultant for other staff members and community agencies.
  • Attends due process hearings as requested.
  • Submits required documentation in a timely fashion, including SEIS reported
  • Other duties as assigned/needed

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a school psychologist
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Training in clinical interventions and providing evidence-based therapy to youth and families
  • Knowledge of district policies and procedures related to special education and DIS services
  • Ability to work as a part of multiple teams
  • Experience with students with learning differences and ADHD is a plus as well as mentoring experience.
  • Ability to connect with people from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds (including but not limited to homeless and LGBTQ youth)
  • Work with individual students and their families on social, emotional, and behavioral issues that may affect their school experience.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations in an urban setting
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit to be able to create and implement routines and rituals to ensure student achievement
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field from an accredited university
    • Master’s in School / Counseling or Clinical Psychology required (Doctorate preferred)
    • Valid School Psychologist Certification (CA)

Employee Benefits:

Compensation will be commensurate with candidate experience and expertise. The salary range for this opportunity is $79,930- $99,578. The benefits package also includes paid sick leave, holiday pay, a generous 403b retirement plan in addition to health, dental, vision, and life insurance. Housing on-campus (based on availability) may be an option for this role.
