Full Job Description
Definition and Purpose
Under the supervision of the Coordinator - Aquatics & Safety, the Safety Student Assistant is responsible for assisting in implementation of safety and risk management training, documentation, research, and management. Additional duties may include instruction of safety courses for staff and patrons.

Requirements
Educational Requirements and Qualifying Experience
- Must be a currently enrolled student at Cal Poly with a minimum of 6 units. Graduate students must carry 4 units.
- Previous safety experience preferred.
- Ability to be highly organized and have good planning skills.
- Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds, specific needs, or limitations.
- Ability to work well in a team atmosphere.
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to change.
- Ability to perform detailed work with accuracy.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others or independently, as the situation requires.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products.
- Must hold a valid Driver’s License with a driving record acceptable to ASI’s insurance underwriters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Use a critical eye to identify risk management concerns.
- Provide quality customer service for all staff and customers.
- Maintain prompt hours and follow absence procedures.
- Maintain a working relationship with staff and co-workers.
- Assist the Coordinator - Aquatics & Safety with the implementation and maintenance of the ASI Corporate Safety Program.
- Adhere to and enforce all ASI departmental policies and procedures.
- Participate in and prepare minutes for all ASI Safety Committee meetings
- Manage inventory of safety supplies and equipment across all ASI-managed facilities.
- Revise and maintain appropriate documentation for global safety training.,
- Assist in certification management.
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of any safety related documents and/or initiatives.
- Maintain familiarity with evacuation plan for work area.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
- The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in ASI policy as a condition of their employment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Period of Employment
Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the employee may resign at any time and ASI may discharge the employee at any time with or without cause.
Benefits
Compensation and Hours
- Hourly Pay Rate: $16.50 per hour
- Hourly Pay Range: $16.50 per hour - $16.50 per hour
Position requires summer availability
Position requires availability to work for at least 3 consecutive quarters
Position may require working late nights, weekends, and holidays
