Job Description

The primary purpose of this job position is to work with the Dietary Department as Registered Dietitian/ Nutrition Specialist. Work with the facility Dietary Supervisor, staff and Diet Technician to plan, organize, develop and direct the overall nutrition services clinical program in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that governing our facility, and as may be directed by the facility Executive Director and Chief Clinical Officer to assure quality nutritional services are being provided on a daily basis. Working directly with dietary staff and other departments to support the Dietary department and facility

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Assume the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability of directing nutrition services related to resident clinical care.

- Assist in the interpretation of the department’s policies and procedures to employees, residents, visitors, government agencies, etc., as necessary.

- Make written oral reports/recommendations to the Executive Director as necessary/required concerning the clinical operation of the Dietary Services Department.

- Assist the Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement Committee in developing and implementing plans of action to correct any food service deficiencies.

- Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing quality assurance program for the Dietary Services Department related to clinical nutrition areas.

- Participate in facility state/federal surveys (inspections) as directed.

- Interview residents or family members, as necessary, to obtain diet history.

- Visit residents routinely to evaluate the quality of meals served, likes and dislikes, meal times, bedtime snacks, food substitutions, etc.

- Document dietary progress that are informative and descriptive of the services provided and of the resident’s response to the service.

- Maintain an adequate liaison with families and residents.

- Assist in developing diet plans for individual residents.

- Assist the Dietary Supervisor in planning menus, work schedules, etc., as required.

- Review therapeutic and regular diet plans and menus to assure they are in compliance with the physician’s orders.

- Review the dietary requirements of each resident admitted to the facility and assist the attending physician in planning for the resident’s prescribed diet plan.

- Verify that residents are offered a nourishing snack at bedtime.

- Attend various committees of the facility as required and as appointed by the Executive Director.

- Provide written and/or oral reports of the food services service programs and activities as required or as may be directed by such committee(s).

- Evaluate and implement recommendations from established committees as they may pertain to clinical nutrition areas of the food services program.

- Attend department head meetings, etc., as scheduled or as may be called.

- Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of food services personnel.

- Maintain a productive working relationship with other department supervisors and coordinate clinical food services to verify that clinical food services are met per resident need.

- Assist support services in developing, implementing, and conducting in-service training programs that relate to the Food Services Department.

- Attend and participate in continuing educational programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession, as well as to maintain your license on a current status.

- Attend and participate in facility mandatory in-service training programs as scheduled (e.g., OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, etc.).

- Ensure food services service work areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.

- Ensure food storage rooms, preparation areas, etc., are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.

- Participate in completing; coding and revising of the Resident Assessment Instrument (MDS) to Verify the resident’s dietary needs are met.

- Using the Resident Assessment Instrument (MDS) and other authorized facility assessments, collaborate with the IDT in developing a written dietary plan of care in accordance with facility policy and State and Federal Regulations.

- Encourage the resident/family to participate in the development and review of the resident’s assessment and plan of care.

- Verify food services personnel are aware of the care plan and that care plans are used in planning daily food services for the resident.

- Review and revise care plans and assessments as necessary, but at least quarterly.

- Develop and maintain a good rapport with all services involved with the care plan to Verify that a team effort is achieved in developing the resident’s comprehensive plan of care.

Requirements

  1. Deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  2. Have a working knowledge of the laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to skilled nursing facilities.
  3. Demonstrate leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel
  4. Registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration
  5. Hold a Certification/License in good standing within the state of practice
  6. Knowledge of state survey process and compliance with nutrition care regulations
  7. Prior skilled nursing facility experience

Full-Time

Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm

May include some weekends

Compensation is based on experience
