Full Job Description
The Quality Inspector for Model Z will be primarily responsible for ensuring that modular homes meet established quality standards and specifications throughout the manufacturing process. The Inspector will conduct inspections, identify defects, and collaborate with production teams to maintain and enhance product quality.

Our mission is to provide high-quality, low-cost, and net-zero-ready housing solutions that are both scalable and practical, aiming to significantly mitigate homelessness and enhance living conditions for underrepresented communities. As a majority Black-owned and operated business based in Southern California, Model/Z is poised to establish the first standardized modular housing factory in the region.
Located in the historic Watts neighborhood of South Los Angeles, Model/Z is committed to revitalizing communities by employing local community members and paying living wages. Our innovative approach revolutionizes construction, transforming a traditional linear process into a parallel manufacturing system that allows us to build high-quality apartment homes in a factory before the concrete is even poured on-site. By empowering Black and brown families and institutions and unlocking the value of underutilized land, Model/Z embodies a model of equitable growth, addressing the urgent need for affordable housing in Southern California and beyond.
Responsibilities:
- Inspection and Testing: Conduct thorough inspections of modular homes at various stages of production, including raw materials, components, and finished products. Perform visual inspections, measurements, and functional tests to ensure compliance with industry standards and company specifications. Use testing equipment and tools to verify the structural integrity, safety, and quality of modular home components.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed and accurate records of inspection results, including photographs and written reports. Document any defects, deviations from standards, and corrective actions taken. Generate reports summarizing inspection findings and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Collaboration: Work closely with production teams to address quality issues promptly and effectively.
- Communicate findings to relevant stakeholders, including engineers, production managers, and quality assurance teams.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to discuss quality trends, improvements, and strategies.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains within the manufacturing process.
- Recommend and implement corrective and preventive actions to enhance overall product quality. Stay updated on industry best practices and standards to ensure the company remains competitive.
- Training: Provide training to production staff on quality control processes and standards. Foster a culture of quality awareness and continuous improvement.
- Complete other tasks and projects as assigned.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional education or certification in quality control or a related field is a plus.
- Previous experience in quality inspection, preferably in the construction or manufacturing industry, is desirable.
- Experience with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) Systems.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
● Ability to climb on and inspect large construction equipment regularly.
● Ability to operate Forklift and Pallet Jacks.
● Able to Interpret engineering drawings.
● Decent proficiency in computer skills, applications, internet, etc. Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs.
● Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, if required.
● Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
● Familiarity with construction materials, building codes, and industry regulations.
● Ability to use various inspection tools and equipment.
● Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with different teams.
● Problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Regularly required to sit, stand, talk, hear, walk, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone; handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- This position requires standing for extended periods and lifting objects.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
