Full Job Description
Direct Counsel is seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Pre-Litigation Associate Attorney to lead the pre-litigation team of a reputable personal injury firm. This role is ideal for an attorney who excels in writing demand letters, managing pre-litigation processes, and navigating case strategy for personal injury and tenant rights cases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the managing partner, a senior paralegal, and two support staff to handle all aspects of pre-litigation.
- Case Management: Oversee case intake, determine strategy, and review files for valuation, evidence preservation, and expert retention.
- Document Drafting: Draft demand letters, pre-litigation mediation briefs, complaints, and responses to form interrogatories as part of the pre-litigation process.
- Focus on Personal Injury: Handle cases involving orthopedic and brain injuries, with preference given to candidates who have experience with tenant rights cases, such as environmental exposure, habitability claims, harassment, and wrongful eviction (training is available for candidates eager to learn in these areas).
Qualifications:
- Experience: Background in personal injury, specifically handling cases that involve orthopedic and brain injuries. Prior experience in tenant rights cases is a plus but not required.
- Writing Skills: Proven ability to write clear and persuasive demand letters.
- Collaborative Leadership: Ability to work on-site with the team for the first three months, with in-office work preferred afterward based on performance.
- Flexibility: Open to candidates with varied years of experience, as long as they demonstrate strong pre-litigation and demand letter drafting capabilities.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary: $115,000 - $130,000 for a full-time associate, or $60/hour for contract attorneys.
- Benefits: Comprehensive group benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. The firm contributes $500/month towards medical insurance, with any additional costs covered by the employee. Life insurance includes a fully-covered $15,000 policy.
