We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Phenotyping Lead to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise with crop pathogens (particularly soybeans) and a strong background in interpreting visual biomarkers. This role will involve leading phenotyping efforts to support our research and development projects, with a focus on identifying and analyzing key traits that contribute to crop improvement. This also includes being accountable for initiatives and team development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage our phenotyping team and projects, with a primary focus on pathogens and soybeans.
  • Design and implement phenotyping protocols to assess plant traits and responses to biotic and abiotic stresses.
  • Utilize InnerPlant's proprietary biomarker technologies to collect and interpret phenotypic data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including molecular biologists, transformation, plant growth, and data scientists, to integrate phenotypic data with genomic, agronomic, and environmental information.
  • Develop and maintain phenotyping databases and ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Interpret our phenotyping data along with available research and scientific literature to identify key traits and biomarkers associated with disease resistance, yield, and other agronomic traits.
  • Coordinate with external farmers, customers, and agronomists to validate field trial results.
  • Prepare and present research findings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay current with advancements in phenotyping technologies and methodologies, and apply new knowledge to improve phenotyping processes.
  • Strategize, hire, train, and mentor research associates.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Plant Pathology, Plant Biology, Agronomy, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience with soybean pathogens and disease management.
  • Proficiency in interpreting optical biomarkers and utilizing phenotyping technologies.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis software and tools.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with high-throughput phenotyping platforms.
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics and statistical analysis.
  • Familiarity with crop breeding and genetics.

Location: Davis, California

Benefits

The US base salary range for this position is $130,000 - $160,000 + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
