Position Summary
Under direct supervision of the Lab Management Team, performs phlebotomy, heel and finger sticks; operates and maintains point of care lab equipment (CLIA Waived); conducts problem resolution, supply inventories and record keeping; renders excellent and effective communication to laboratory internal and external customers.
Will cover Santee, El Cajon, Julian, and Campo.
Essential Functions of the Job
- Demonstrate skills and abilities by following the guidelines in venipuncture, heel and finger stick.
- Have knowledge and skills in basic collection and specimen preparation, storage and disposal of specimen, revision of daily temperature and recording; according to Lab Procedure Manuals.
- Perform point of care testing, quality control, reporting and records keeping of CLIA waived complexity testing according to Lab Procedure Manuals.
- Demonstrate basic computer literacy to meet department needs and duties (i.e. records keeping, health record entries, results tracking, etc.).
- Performs patient care functions as prescribed by licensed health care providers following established clinical protocols and policies and procedures within defined scope of education, training and responsibilities.
- Ability to multi task, flexible, ensures accuracy and completeness of work, adaptable to changes in department and business needs.
- Accountable and requires minimal direction and supervision and maintain good working relationship with employees, coworkers and departments.
- Maintains workstation, furnishings and equipment clean, and supply inventory at prescribed stock levels.
- Assist in checking daily temperature and recording.
- Possess personal characteristics of professionalism, credible commitment to high standards with excellent communication skills; effectively and clearly communicate verbally and in writing with patients and other customers.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Adhere to the established departmental policies and objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- May be requested to assist in communication efforts that require verbal translation for patients; depending on the assignment.
- Will be required to travel to other sites as needed.
- Maintain current continuing education and professional licensure.
- Attend and participate in meetings and additional duties as required.
Requirements
Education Required (Minimum level of education):
- High School or equivalent
Certifications/Licenses Required:
- Phlebotomy Certification – Current California State Phlebotomy Licensure
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate
Experience Required (Minimum level of experience):
- Six months medical laboratory experience as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)
- Proficient in medical terminology.
- Basic computer literacy.
