Full Job Description

Direct Counsel is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Paralegal to join our dynamic legal team. Key Responsibilities:

  • File Management: Review case files thoroughly upon receipt to ensure all necessary information is complete and accurate.

Discovery Management:

  • Propound discovery within 10 days of receiving the Defendant’s Answer.
  • Notice the Defendant’s deposition when serving discovery, unless specifically instructed otherwise by the handling attorney. Document these actions in FV.

Court Calendar Monitoring:

  • Review the Court calendar every 30 days to stay informed about all upcoming hearings and deadlines.

Case Management:

  • Task the case manager every 120 days to ensure that medical records, bills, and statutory liens are updated and accurate.

Team Calendar Maintenance:

  • Maintain and update your team’s calendar in FV, ensuring all key dates and deadlines are tracked.

Legal Document Preparation:

  • Prepare all Motions, Oppositions, and Replies with precision and timeliness.

Legal Research:

  • Conduct comprehensive research on legal issues to support case strategies and ensure well-informed decisions.

Discovery Responses:

  • Draft and respond to discovery requests promptly and accurately to facilitate case progression.

Expert Deposition Handling:

  • Upon receipt of a defense expert’s deposition transcript, prepare a Kennemur Motion in Limine (MIL) and bullet point each expert’s opinions. Create separate Kennemur MILs for each expert and ensure these are prepared proactively, well in advance of trial.

Trial Preparation:

  • Prepare trial documents and binders with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Confirm witness testimony and ensure all trial preparations are completed effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Paralegal or in a similar legal support role.
  • Strong proficiency in legal research, drafting legal documents, and managing discovery processes.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
  • Familiarity with case management software, particularly FV, is preferred.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a legal team.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Paralegal certification (e.g., NALA, NFPA) is a plus.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a Paralegal in litigation in State and Federal Courts.
