JOB SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Engineer will be a part of the team setting a state-of-the-art modular manufacturing operation working with design, production, quality and supply chain teams. As we start production, this role will perform manufacturing planning, continuous improvement and sustaining activities required to support production teams meet throughput goals and improve overall efficiency with the overall goal of reducing cost of housing in California.

As a majority Black-owned and operated business based in Southern California, Model/Z is poised to establish the first standardized modular housing factory in the region.

Our innovative approach revolutionizes construction, transforming a traditional linear process into a parallel manufacturing system that allows us to build high-quality apartment homes in a factory before the concrete is even poured on-site. Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist with establishing manufacturing and business practices and processes necessary to move fast while still producing high quality products
  • Manage assemblies and their child components from design release through prototyping and production — lay out the build and test flow to ensure an efficient, high-quality product flow capable of scaling with time
  • Drive the assembly’s first build and test effort through design integration, assembly sequencing, mBOM development, build and test work order creation, and specification authoring
  • Develop detailed work instructions, plan and manage manufacturing routings workflows in the MES system
  • Design tools, jigs and fixtures as required to improve process speed and quality
  • Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality control standards.
  • Assist with time and process studies to evaluate work content, establish standards and labor requirements.
  • Manage and assist with implementation of manufacturing software systems.
  • Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Support the shop floor and production personnel through responsive issue resolution and provide upstream feedback
  • Develop strong working relationships with Product Engineering, Quality, Procurement and production teams to ensure all company objectives can be met


EDUCATION, SKILLS, ABLITIES

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (mechanical, industrial or similar) or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of GD&T
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D CAD design software like SOLIDWORKS or Autodesk Inventor preferred.
  • Self-starter that has demonstrated the ability to define and own a process from scratch and roll out that process through adept communication to a diverse team
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of typical manufacturing execution systems and quality management systems
