Full Job Description
Manufacturing Engineer I is responsible for all tasks pertaining to realization of parts / products, in coordination with all other departments within the company, with a focus on improving the production efficiency and quality of those items.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and estimate/support customer RFQ packages for manufacturing projects.
- Establish product structures (Item, BOM, Routing, Customer spec summary, Manufacturing aide, etc.) in the company’s ERP/MRP system per operating procedures
- Review, understand, get clarification and negotiate deviations for customer specifications, drawing, parts list, etc...
- Extract and interpret customer specs into manufacturing aide documents and shop travelers in a manner that is more user-friendly for shop operators using best practices of the company. Physically work with the operators to best communicate design intentions.
- Liaison between shop operator to customer to establish clear definition / direction on manufacturing process.
- Develop solutions to production issues
- Plan and design manufacturing processes
- Determine the parts, equipment, and tools needed to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specifications
- Provide insight to the engineering team to facilitate manufacturing
- CUF / Mold / Tool / Jig / Fixture Design
- Engineering calculations / analysis
- Create Engineering reports / presentations
- Create internal specifications, procedures and train personnel to processes
- Communicate/execute changes and deviations to Manufacturing by releasing revisions, red-lines and Engineering Orders through Senior Engineers
- Develop ply patterns, create cut files, program and set-up equipment
- Support Quality Assurance
- Perform technical reviews of contract or PO
- Generate change orders based on out-of-scope work
- Project management for build-to-print tasks as required, which could include;
- In coordination with other departments, establish, monitor, and adjust master schedule to suit program needs
- Coordinate with shipping / receiving and Quality Assurance to assure that materials arrive with all required documentation
- Coordinate with Quality Assurance with first article inspections
- Supervise shop floor in the absence of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Working Conditions:
Primarily in an office environment, and shop environment. Periodic weekend or evening work is expected. Travel is expected.
Requirements
Skills Required
- Fundamental mathematics
- Fundamental physics
- Understanding of fundamental engineering disciplines such as mechanics of materials, mechanical systems and fluid dynamics
- Sound understanding of composite processing
- Composite materials, Aircraft design or vehicle dynamics background a plus
- CAD (preferably SolidWorks and CATIA V5)
- Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Project
- Working connection with all of company's programs and systems.
- Understand GD&T
Preferred Skills:
- Product / Part Design
- Technical Proposal writing
- Metrology
- Hands-on experience in lamination of composite components
- Physical manufacturing of parts and assemblies
Qualifications:
- BS degree in Manufacturing Engineering or other degrees and experiences that are deemed equivalent
- 0-5 years of experience in the following:
- Manufacturing Engineering; or
- Composites and other light weight structures design; or
- Mechanical design; or
- Composite manufacturing processes and tool design
- Candidates must be US Person for compliance with ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations)
