Who You Are:
Figure 8 is seeking a Manager of Show Experience and Development who will be actively involved in the genesis and evolution of new and existing exhibitions and non-traditional visitor experiences.
This team member will be working within the Design Team from the earliest phase of concept development, all the way to operational hand-off. This person will own the "how" of our experiences through scripting, developing, and organizing the key factors for show quality and implementation.
They will set the stage for our in-unit team members and ensure that our guests are delivered an experience with a clear narrative and direction.
Your Day-to-Day:
- Offer feedback on experience development in conjunction with our Design Team
- Publish documentation representing the design and narrative intent in each experience to be maintained in operation for excellence in Show Quality (i.e. Experience SOPs, including personnel training in show experience)
- Build upon experiences; focusing on participation, strong human to human interaction, as well as interaction with the space to further group connection
- Where applicable, develop scripted moments and characters for in-unit team members to bring to life with guests
- Develop comprehensive documentation to convey the flow of the full MOIC experience from room to room; focusing emotional journey and engagement through each space (i.e. passive energy moment > engaged energy moment > high energy moment, etc.)
- Develop copy/language throughout all experiences, focusing on continuity in tone and narrative that fits the MOIC brand
- Review feedback (GSAT, TSAT, KPIs, etc.) across departments to develop comprehensive plans to achieve excellence in show quality. Including but not limited to a published tracker of performance feedback for internal review.
- Where applicable, develop and implement team-member coaching in performance to align with the narrative/character for the experience (i.e. "you are a luxury airliner attendant in an ice cream wonderland; your physicality is X, your tone is X. You may greet guests by saying X,Y, or Z. Etc.)
- Cultivate and lead a culture that promotes a professional, collaborative, inspiring, fun and teamwork-driven work setting for all Team Members.
- Perform other duties as assigned
The salary range for this role is $100,000- $120,000 USD depending on location and experience.
Requirements
The Necessities:
- 5+ years of working in themed entertainment or a similar field
- Prior directorial, teaching or training experience
- Flexible with travel and working out of sites for periods of time.
- Experience implementing show standards and practices to a team or staff
- Can clearly communicate a vision of a “character” for an experience
- Must be available to work on weekends, holidays and nights as required.
- Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and traveling to multiple venues throughout the day.
- Ability to read, interpret and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and union contracts.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and training documentation.
- Ability to effectively deliver in-person performance notes to both individuals and full teams
- Deep understanding of performance and exceptional conversational skills
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
- Strong time management skills.
- Ability to partner across business units.
- Demonstrates ability to work independently under pressure; proactive thinker/self-starter.
- Familiarity with guest flow principles (i.e. queuing, pulsing, wayfinding, etc.)
The Nice-to-Haves:
- BA or BFA in an entertainment related field
- Minimum 3+ years in a live entertainment or theatrical environment
- PowerPoint presentations with strong visual instructions and video experience is a plus.
- Background in performance
- Familiarity with ADA requirements for guest occupied spaces
- Copywriting or scriptwriting experience
