Full Job Description
Direct Counsel is looking for a litigation attorney to join a mid-sized boutique law firm, with 30-year history, in its busy Environmental practice. Applicants must have 1) at least two (2) years civil litigation experience; 2) superior writing and oral argument skills; 3) familiarity with or a willingness to learn about bedrock environmental laws, such as CERCLA; and 4) be admitted to the California Bar. Geology or hydrogeology background a plus. Trial, class action, toxic tort, and/or environmental regulatory agency experience also a plus. Successful candidates will be expected to play an active role in small to high-profile environmental matters. This is a great opportunity to grow as a young attorney.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
- The ideal candidate will also possess experience with advanced litigation including the management of cases throughout all stages (clear communication with clients and fellow attorneys as to status of cases, drafting of complex motions, pleadings, discovery).
- Manage discovery, including propounding and responding to written discovery, taking and defending depositions, and analyzing complex documents
- Draft and prepare legal documents, including pleadings and complex motions
- Perform legal research
- Make court appearances as necessary
- Supervise junior associates and take direction from supervising partners

Job Type:
- Hybrid work environment. However, a strong suggestion to work in the office frequently as you get to know the ropes. Then, remote work split is flexible.
