Kitchen Assistant

The Kitchen Assistant is a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual who is part of the Bethel Kitchen Team. This role is central to the kitchen’s operations and projects, working closely with the Kitchen Manager and her Assistant in order to assist in every aspect of catering and hospitality. This role is integral to the efficient and smooth operation of the Bethel Kitchen, ensuring that all aspects of food production meet the highest standards of quality and consistency. The role requires a passion for food, strong organizational skills, inter-communication skills, leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced kitchen environment. 

*It's important to note that this is a part time position.

Salary Range: $13,312 - $21,216

Hours per week: 16-24 hours per week

• Food Preparation:
• Assist in the preparation of various menu items, following established recipes and portion sizes.
• Closely assist the Head Chef oversee, shop, prepare, cook, delegate, lead teams, plan, deliver, set-up, clean-up, etc.
• Serve the various functions that the kitchen caters to.
• Inspect deliveries accuracy and timeliness
• Ensure all food products are handled, stored, and prepared in accordance with food safety and sanitation guidelines.
• Ensure that all catering orders are set in a timely manner

• Inventory Management:
• Monitor and manage inventory levels of kitchen supplies and ingredients.
• Inform Kitchen Manager and/or Manager’s Assistant of replenishment needs to ensure items are ordered in a timely manner.
  
• Quality Control:
• Work closely with the Head Chef to conduct quality checks on ingredients and prepared dishes to maintain consistent standards.
• Work closely with the Head Chef to address any quality concerns and make necessary adjustments.
  
• Kitchen Organization:
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including proper storage of ingredients, utensils, and equipment.
• Assist in the overall cleanliness of the kitchen and with closing procedures including cleaning the kitchen and managing storage.
  
• Collaboration:
• Work closely with the Kitchen Manager and Kitchen Staff, and occasionally leads teams of Kitchen Volunteers to ensure smooth coordination each week and during events. 
• Communicate effectively with team members and other departments to facilitate a positive and productive work environment.
• Assist volunteers and often leads a number of them in their tasks and provides support and direction.
  
• Adherence to Procedures:
• Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Follow established guidelines for food handling, storage, and preparation.

Requirements

• Must possess a valid CA Food Handlers Certificate
• BSSM Alumni preferred but not required
• Previous experience in a kitchen or food production environment is desired
• Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices is expected
• Able to follow recipes and instructions accurately
• Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Flexible to work in a fast-paced and dynamic kitchen environment
• Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods is necessary
• High School diploma required; additional qualifications are a plus
