The Shalem Early Childhood Learning Community is an innovative play-based Jewish preschool in Manhattan Beach, CA. The school devotes its curriculum, environment, and talented staff to developing our children’s minds, bodies, and souls. We seek an outstanding, passionate K – 5th grade STEAM Camp Leader for the summer who will invest energy in broadening our student’s whole growth, inspiring them to immerse in their learning. We are looking for a self-motivated and driven Camp Lead to join a team of colleagues committed to the belief that students need teachers who are invested in creating a dynamic environment. We seek somebody to develop and implement a play-based STEAM experience for a small mixed-age camp group. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with a passion for working with children and a desire to impact their lives positively.
Duties include:
- The Camp Director oversees the daily operations of STEAM camp, creating a high-energy, organized, engaging experience for campers.
- Lead and manage up to 25 campers.
- Oversee and guide camp counselor as they help to lead the daily activities
- Lead Field Trips
- Plan Curriculum
- Organize and participate in daily planning, execution, and clean-up of all-camp activities.
- If needed, assist in the Extended Care program.
- Maintain safe environments for all campers.
Requirements
- A college degree is preferred but not required
- Demonstrated leadership experience
- Administrative experience
- Experience working in a school or camp setting
- Genuine love for and interest in working with children
- Ability to maintain an excellent work ethic, a high energy level, and exceptional daily enthusiasm
- Flexibility to meet changing needs and demands while balancing multiple tasks efficiently
- Desire to work collaboratively on a team, with an openness to feedback and a desire to grow professionally
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail
- Great communication skills, both written and verbal
- Must be at least 18 years of age by May 26, 2023
- Valid CPR/First Aid certification OR ability to become certified prior to the start of camp.
- Valid Mandatory Report Certification OR ability to complete certification before the start of camp.
The teacher plays a vital role in the growth of every child in the classroom. It is essential for teachers to:
- Designate a time and space for creative and imaginative play.
- Provide open-ended, appropriate play experiences for kids.
- Structure activities to facilitate children’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development.
- Teach most subjects with activities that incorporate play.
