Overview
The System Architect is an inaugural and pivotal position within the Pathology and Lab Medicine Department, responsible for developing and implementing an IT architecture that not only aligns with but also enhances clinical operations, research initiatives, and patient care objectives. Working closely with the department's project management office, this role plays a crucial part in the planning and execution of key initiatives and projects. Emphasizing the strategic use and integration of cloud and on-premises solutions, the role focuses on creating a technology infrastructure that is both cost-effective and adaptable to the healthcare environment's changing needs.
Responsibilities
- Strategic IT Planning, Architecture Design, and Infrastructure Strategy (30%)
- Lead the creation and ongoing refinement of the future-state IT and systems architecture to ensure scalability, cost-efficiency, and compliance.
- Develop and execute strategies for the integration of cloud and on-premises resources, managing application and data storage in the cloud while maximizing the utility of on-premises resources.
- Evaluate emerging technologies for their potential to enhance the IT infrastructure, focusing on strategic fit, interoperability, and support of departmental and organizational goals.
- Serve as the technical leader for key IT initiatives, aligning project execution with strategic vision and architectural principles.
- Foster a collaborative environment among clinical, operational, and IT teams, and external partners, effectively managing expectations and promoting a culture of innovation.
- Direct the evaluation and selection of new technologies, ensuring they are in alignment with the strategic IT architecture and meet operational requirements.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to rigorously assess and deploy technology solutions that advance departmental efficiency and effectiveness.
- Craft and implement strategies to ensure the seamless integration of disparate systems, promoting efficient data exchange and interoperability across the clinical and operational spectrum.
- Tackle information silos through the development and implementation of comprehensive data integration frameworks.
- Champion the adherence of the IT architecture to healthcare regulations, data privacy standards, and security protocols, especially within cloud and on-premises frameworks.
- Lead risk assessments to proactively identify and address potential security threats and vulnerabilities.
- Remain abreast of technological advancements, evaluating their applicability and potential to revolutionize departmental operations, enhance clinical workflows, and improve patient outcomes.
- Spearhead the adoption of cutting-edge solutions within the existing IT ecosystem.
- Actively engage with departmental leaders and staff to understand their technological needs and challenges.
- Communicate architectural strategies, project milestones, and the benefits of technological investments to a broad audience of stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
- Deep experience in system architecture, particularly within healthcare or related environments.
- Proven expertise in the strategic use of cloud computing and on-premises infrastructure, with a thorough understanding of healthcare IT standards and regulations.
- Background in the deployment and integration of lab-specific systems
- Experience in working with Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and an understanding of EHR. Integration standards and protocols
- High level understanding of lab operations and clinical workflows.
- Strong project management, communication, and collaborative skills.
