Terran Orbital is seeking an experienced Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead – Reaction Wheels  to join our growing team. Reporting to the   Product Director of Actuation & Mechanisms, the IPT Lead will utilize engineering and industry best practices to lead a team of engineers in designing, integrating, and developing new and optimizing existing products.  The Lead is required to work closely with their peers and managers of various engineering disciplines, program managers and IPT Leads across the entire organization.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary team comprised of Electrical, Mechanical and Software engineers. 
  • Mentor and develop team members, promoting continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment and provide mentorship and development opportunities for team members.
  • Develop team goals and ensure alignment with project and overall organizational goals.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations, reports, and documentation to communicate project status, milestones, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with other IPT leads and departments to ensure cohesive and integrated project execution.
  • Provide technical leadership in the design and development of satellite reaction wheels, ensuring optimal performance and reliability including ongoing operational support. 
  • Build and maintain a close working relationship with manufacturing, mission assurance, assembly, integration, and test to ensure manufacturability, quality, and delivery milestones can be met.
  • Develop and manage design specific project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure timely and cost-effectiveness.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to address potential issues.
  • Accountable for the products technical scope, design schedule, technical decisions, and compliance with all relevant standards, regulations, and quality assurance protocols.
  • Conduct and review engineering analyses, simulations, and testing for design validation and performance.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical discipline
  • 5+ years of experience managing a multi-disciplined engineering team
  • Experience with the design, manufacture, test, and qualification of precision, high-speed rotating mechanical systems.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, able to identify and resolve design/manufacturing/procurement issues.
  • Strong leadership & team building skills, proven ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams.
  • Proven experience interfacing successfully across organizational boundaries and working in a team environment.
  • Ability to foster an environment that supports continuous improvement, novel thinking, and new approaches to business challenges, resulting in creative and competitive solutions.
  • Product or Project Management experience working with mechanical, electrical components and/or software development. 

Additional Differentiators

  • Experience with space mission requirements, satellite integration, and environmental testing.
  • Background working with bearings, rotor dynamics and/or brushless motor design.
  • Working knowledge of AIAA S 114 Moving Mechanical Assemblies for Space and Launch Vehicles, GSFC-STD-7000 General Environmental Verification Standard (GEVS), and SMC-S-016, Test requirements for Launch, Upper stage, and Space Vehicles

Salary Range $160,000-$200,000

Your actual level and base salary will be determined case-by-case and may vary based on the job-related qualification, knowledge, skills, education, and experience. Physical Demands

An employee must meet the physical demands described to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. In performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to sit or stand for long durations of time, in addition to bending, reaching, and walking. This would require the ability to lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. This position is generally sedentary, with substantial computer usage.

Work Environment

The job operates in a professional office environment but in a manufacturing company. This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and scanners.
