Full Job Description

  • This is an “At-Will” position
  • This is a full time, hourly position
  • Hours can vary according to the needs of the Center
  • Overtime required depending on needs of Center
  • Continuing education required - content to be determined on an ongoing basis by the Director

Description:

Plans and implements activities that promote the social emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of children 2 years to 6 years. Responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate environment that complies with all relevant State regulations as well as Center policies and procedures.


Requirements

Principal Duties:

  • Offer a program that meets the emotional, physical, social and intellectual needs of both the individual and the group
  • Plan and present age appropriate activities for the children in cooperation with co-workers and the Program Specialist(s) or Curriculum Specialist
  • Act as a role model to other staff and act as a team member
  • Follow Center personnel and general policies
  • Notify Supervisor(s) when parents do not adhere to Center policies or State regulations (i.e. child absent without parent notification, parent consistently failing to sign-in/out, etc.)
  • Maintain sign-in/out cards according to State mandate
  • Maintain daily schedule as posted in the classroom
  • Create and implement lesson plans
  • Maintain a classroom that is clean, safe, stimulating and is appropriate for each child’s developmental level
  • Maintain classroom records
  • Make families feel welcome at all times; greet parent and child at arrival and parent at departure, while maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Greet visitors to classroom with warm smile and greeting
  • Consider the individual child in relationship to his/her culture and socioeconomic background
  • Assume an equal share of the housekeeping responsibilities
  • Promote healthy eating practices through participating in family-style meals and planning and implementing nutritional activities (as applicable)
  • Meet and maintain Licensing requirements for ratio and supervision
  • Create a safe, secure and loving environment for all enrolled children
  • Develop a curriculum plan and schedules that meet the needs of children
  • Ensure curriculum is appropriately carried out in the indoor and the outdoor environment
  • Complete DRDP+’s in a timely manner and relay to parents at conferences
  • Assist in NAEYC or other accreditation
  • Make sure the outdoor environment is kept clean (i.e. sidewalks swept, toys put away, etc.)
  • Understand and implement all regulations for indoor and outdoor safety
  • Hold parent conferences as needed
  • Identify special needs of children and or families
  • Understand and comply with Title 22 regulations
  • Participate in special events, fundraising and professional conferences

Other:

  • Understand responsibilities as a Mandated Reporter
  • Ability to be flexible in assignment and work hours required
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Work is primarily performed in the Center environment
  • Work effectively in a dynamic environment with a high level of activity
  • Lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Have the visual acuity to supervise children
  • Have the ability to hear children speaking in a normal tone as well as hear any alarms
  • Sustain a high level of energy
  • Stand up to 95% of the day
  • Assume postures in low-level positions that best allow physical and visual contact with children
  • Bend to perform various tasks numerous times throughout the day
  • Stoop, sit on the floor
  • Have the ability to move from a seated position to a standing position promptly to respond to emergency situations
  • Perform all activities with children (i.e. jump, dance, walk, run, etc.) for extended periods of time

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum of 12 ECE, Title 22-certified units (i.e. Child/Human Growth &

Development - 3 units, Child Family & Community - 3 units, Program

/Curriculum - 3 units & Infant Care & Development - 3 units). Applicant must be eligible to be teacher-qualified as per Title 22 and Community Care

Licensing. Applicant must have 3 units of infant/toddler coursework, regardless of the classroom assignment. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood

Education preferred. A minimum of 6 months experience as a preschool teacher or infant/toddler teacher is required.
