Full Job Description
We are seeking a committed and passionate Youth Specialist to provide direct services to 6th-12th graders and support the day-to-day operations of the Home Away Program.
The ideal candidate will have a deep compassion for underrepresented youth and a strong desire to support them in meeting their personal and academic goals. We are looking for a highly organized, adaptable individual who can creatively problem-solve and respond to the diverse needs of the youth. This role reports to the Senior Manager and works closely with other Youth Specialists to deliver high-quality programming that fosters academic growth, personal development, community engagement, and emotional well-being for youth experiencing housing insecurity. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, allowing the candidate to build trust with youth, families, and community partners.
Experience in youth development and trauma-informed care is highly desirable, and a genuine commitment to equity, resilience, and advocacy is key to helping participants overcome challenges and reach their full potential.
Benefits:
- Pay Rate: $23-$25 per hour
- Full Time: 30-32 hours/week
- Hours: M-Th 2:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m./ Friday 3:30 - 8:30 with occasional weekends

Minimum Requirements:
- Proof of a) Associate Degree or higher, or (b) 48 or more college units, or (c) pass Instructional Aide exam
- Proof of TB test Clearance
- Must have experience working with underserved youth
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Must have a clean driving record and a valid CA driver's license.
- Ability to drive a 7-passenger vehicle with youth
- Must be punctual and reliable
- Must be able to work every day and hours required for the position
- Must have an understanding of nutrition and healthy teenage development
- Must be able to work independently or as a member of a team
- Must be able to communicate openly and in a professional manner with the program staff, youth, volunteers, parents, and community partners
- Must maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high degree of integrity
- Must be able to handle multiple priorities and strict deadlines
- Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds
- Ability to travel to required meetings
- Ability to work with Microsoft Office and Web-based programs
- Ability to commit to a full Academic Year
Responsibilities:
- Build trusting relationships with program participants.
- Support preparing for activities and ensure physical space and all program supplies are left clean and organized after each use.
- Support the implementation of systems to meet program goals. (have activities ready, follow program schedule, completion of tasks, team collaboration)
- Lead enrichment activities
- Support individual tutoring sessions
- Ensures students are working towards meeting their goals.
- Drive program participants home at the end of the program
- Assist chef volunteers and set up the dining room for program participants.
- Ensures snacks are balanced and nutritious food is available.
- Promote a safe and positive emotional climate for program participants.
- Provide program support in areas as needed, including actively supervising students to ensure their safety at all times.
- Support students in developing the skills they need to be successful in school and life.
- Collaborate with the site manager and program staff to strengthen all programming components.
- Model positive and proactive attitudes, behaviors, and language to students and staff.
- Maintain appropriate, professional, and youth-friendly speech, behavior, and attire at all times.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of groceries and vehicle expenses
- Meet deadlines with consistency
- Assist in tracking attendance and other student records.
- When applicable, attend and be an active participant in all training and team meetings

Above is the pay range for this position that we reasonably expect to pay. Individual compensation is based on various factors including experience/education, skillset, and geographic location.
