Pay Range: $26-32/hr

Position: Facilities and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Associate

Schedule: Monday thru Friday | 8:00am to 5:00pm

Primary Function of Position

The Facilities and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Associate plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of campus facilities and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all occupants. This position involves a combination of physical tasks related to material relocation, facility maintenance support, and assisting with various Environmental Health & Safety initiatives.

Major Responsibilities

Material Handling and Relocation

  • Assist in the movement of materials, equipment, and furniture within campus facilities as per the requirements
  • Coordinate with relevant departments to ensure timely and efficient relocation of items
  • Maintain accurate records of material movements and inventory levels

Facilities Support

  • Provide general support to facilities staff in tasks such as minor repairs, installations, and maintenance activities
  • Assist in setting up and dismantling equipment and facilities for events, meetings, and other activities
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs and safety hazards

Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Assistance

  • Collaborate with the EHS team to conduct regular inspections and audits of campus facilities to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards
  • Assist with the implementation of safety protocols and procedures across campus
  • Support EHS initiatives such as waste management, hazardous material handling, and emergency response preparedness

Project Support

  • Participate in various projects related to facilities management and environmental health and safety
  • Provide assistance in planning, organizing, and executing project tasks as assigned by supervisors
  • Collaborate with team members to meet project deadlines and deliverables effectively

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of facilities management principles, EHS regulations, and workplace safety practices is essential. Familiarity with relevant laws and standards such as OSHA regulations, environmental compliance, and building codes is beneficial.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing facility operations and EHS documentation.
  • Communication skills to interact with colleagues, vendors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Analytical skills to assess risks, troubleshoot issues, and recommend solutions.
  • Computer proficiency, including MS Office and possibly software related to facility management or EHS compliance.
  • While entry-level positions may not require extensive experience, any relevant internships, co-op programs, or part-time jobs in facilities management, EHS, or related fields are a plus. Practical experience with facility inspections, safety audits, or environmental compliance is also a plus.
  • Being adaptable to changing priorities, environments, and tasks is important in this role as it may involve diverse responsibilities ranging from equipment maintenance to safety training.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with colleagues from various departments to ensure a safe and functional work environment.
