Job Summary: In this role, you will be the primary equipment engineer responsible for 5-6 vacuum process tool used in Caelux’s production floor and laboratory at our Baldwin Park facility. While specializing in vacuum equipment, you will likely also have opportunities to learn and develop expertise with other tools such as wet film deposition, laser scribing, and optical test equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
· Developing (with support of process engineers) engineering packages for acquisition, development, installation and bring-up of new vacuum tools. This includes RFQ, supplier scorecard, facilities matrix, P&ID, line lists, safety analysis, build surveillance, factory and site acceptance testing, installation, controls tuning, spares planning, energy control plans, operation and maintenance SOPs.
· Supporting lab R&D team with mechanical design of custom laboratory apparatus.
· Troubleshooting equipment, corrective maintenance, and upgrades of lab and fab equipment. Set and support preventive maintenance schedule.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, plus 3 – 7 years’ experience, or Master’s degree plus 2 years’ experience.
· Experience with PVD or evaporation processes in a manufacturing environment, preferably optics or semiconductor.
· Understanding of vacuum tool and component function, operation and maintenance of roughing turbo and diffusion pumps, vacuum gauges, etc. Experience with predictive maintenance of rotating equipment a plus.
· Experience and skill with troubleshooting methods common for vacuum equipment, e.g. leak testing, leak up/down techniques, and electrical/controls diagnostics.
· Good engineering practices (safety, documentation, calibration)
· Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs. Must be able to work at bench-height lab equipment and climb short stepladders to access service access ports located approximately 6 feet off the floor.
Requirements
Preferred knowledge and experience (not all are expected, competitive candidates will have some)
· Experience with thin-film diagnostics e.g. four-point-probe, profilometer, transmission and reflectance.
· Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD.
· Awareness of common industrial equipment-related safety standards such as NFPA 70, NEC/NFPA 79, and OSHA requirements.
- Understanding of controls engineering, PLC/PAC controllers and IEC 6113103 languages (ladder, FBD, structured text, SFC), and communication networks (Modbus, EtherCAT, Profibus, Serial)
- Experience applying predictive maintenance methods for rotating equipment
