Full Job Description
Direct Counsel is seeking two diligent Document Review Attorneys to join an excellent legal organization for a 3-6 month assignment. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the legal process remotely, with occasional in-office visits for training purposes in either San Francisco or Los Angeles. As a Document Review Attorney, you will be an integral part of the Complaint Review Unit (CRU), responsible for processing cases and ensuring compliance with legal standards. The successful candidates will demonstrate proficiency in legal research, writing, and analysis, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards.
Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze legal documents and evidence pertaining to cases in the CRU.
- Draft motions, appellate briefs, and memos in support of investigations and legal proceedings.
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather relevant information and evidence.
- Conduct legal research to support case development and strategy.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of case progress and findings.
Requirements:
- JD from an accredited law school.
- 3-5 years of experience in litigation, with a focus on writing motions and appellate briefs.
- Previous experience as a court staff attorney or clerkship preferred, with demonstrated memo writing skills.
- Experience supporting investigations, including compliance and workplace investigations, is highly desirable.
- Public agency experience is advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
Note:
Only candidates who can commit to occasional in-office visits, including on their first day, will be considered for this position. This is a fully remote role, with the flexibility to work from San Francisco or Los Angeles.
