Full Job Description
As a member of the company’s Engineering team, the Data Center Design and Performance Engineer is responsible for designing and reviewing electrical, mechanical, and site plans. This role requires making independent decisions and consistently exercising sound judgment to ensure alignment with CoreSite’s design standards. A strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, particularly in relation to data center redundancy and operations, is essential. The Engineer will collaborate closely with facility and operations teams to ensure all equipment installations are thoroughly reviewed and meet CoreSite's build standards.
Duties:
- Evaluate the efficiency, reliability, and engineering design of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire and life-safety, and building management systems for expansion and upgrade projects
- Define the scope for testing and commissioning to ensure design intent and operability of systems supporting the data centers
- Provide final quality assurance sign-off for engineered systems at the end of construction
- Collaborate with Sales Engineering to design custom engineering solutions for customer deployments
- Support the sales process for complex opportunities by providing technical expertise
- Assess installed systems to optimize efficiency and reliability
- Review and approve engineering modifications to existing facilities
- Provide engineering support to Data Center Operations, including failure analysis and system maintenance of critical infrastructure
- Ensure quality control for Operations teams, focusing on equipment, safety, and maintenance best practices
- Support commissioning activities by reviewing test scripts and witnessing test performance
- Maintain up-to-date documentation related to design, procurement, and operational standards
- Special projects as assigned
Requirements
Ability to work 40% on-site from an approved CoreSite Market and 60% remotely from that same market, with flexibility to adjust onsite expectations as business needs evolve
- Ability to travel up to 40% of the time to support testing and construction activities, with flexibility to adjust travel commitments as business needs evolve. Must demonstrate adaptability in managing travel requirements in response to company growth
- In-depth working knowledge of data center design, operations, and infrastructure
- Strong strategic problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to challenges
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, or other computer aided design software, as well as in Microsoft Office, primarily Excel
- Ability to operate and interpret results from test equipment, such as power quality meters, thermal imaging cameras, multi-meters, to evaluate and troubleshoot equipment operation and performance
- Commitment to personal development and the ability to pursue relevant certifications and accreditations (i.e. LEED AP, CDCDP, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse personalities and cross-functional teams in both on-site and remote environments
- Ability to work independently while ensuring regular communication and coordination with colleagues and other organizations, regardless of location
Education/Experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in data center operations preferred
- 3+ years of relevant experience in data center operations and design may be considered in lieu of educational qualifications

Compensation:
Compensation for this role includes a base salary between $114,000 and $131,000 annually. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus and equity, based upon individual and company performance.
