Full Job Description

The Director is responsible for leading the Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership’s (CVNL) Court Referral Program. This program provides an opportunity for justice-involved individuals to grow and transform through community service. Through CVNL's partnerships with nonprofit organizations, court referred clients are matched with volunteer opportunities that can help them learn new skills, build healthier relationships, find employment, and meaningfully contribute their time to those in need. The tasks that court referral clients may engage in include serving meals to people experiencing food insecurity, beautifying county and city parks, planting trees, removing fire-prone plants, sorting food donations, removing graffiti, creating websites, testing software, setting up local fundraising events, and much more. As the Director of the Court Referral Program, you will lead a team of coordinators who focus on client intake, volunteer matching, and case management.

Requirements

Supervisory

  • Manage the Court Referral team which includes recruitment and onboarding, conducting employee evaluations, providing on-going staff development opportunities.
  • Develop, and train staff to support excellent service to clients.
  • Foster a culture of productivity and appreciation.
  • Facilitate group meetings and conduct individual supervision meetings to ensure consistent communication and equitable delegation of responsibilities.
  • Effectively supervise client management team with a variety of caseloads. Regularly review case progress for multi-year client cases.

Contract / MOU Compliance

  • Prepare and facilitate annual contract renewal.
  • Oversee and update, practice, and evaluate all quality assurance practices in accordance with contract requirements, including site visits, surveys/questionnaires, and agency trainings.
  • Prepare and monitor budget and contract compliance.
  • Gather, analyze, and report monthly, mid-year, and end of fiscal year statistical data.
  • Attend and contribute to off-site meetings hosted by court, county, and agency partners.
  • Create plans and set objectives toward contract goals and successful outcomes.
  • Use evidence-based practices to reach desired contract outcomes.
  • Ensure policy and procedures are adhered to in order to limit liability to volunteer placement host organizations and CVNL partners.

Partner Communication

  • Facilitate communication with constituents (judges, diversion, city, county departments, chamber of commerce[LJ3] , CLASP, etc.) to ensure efficient practices and fairness to our clients.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with community agencies and court personnel.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with organizational and governmental/public partners and nonprofit agencies.

Program Day to Day, Development, and Oversight

  • Supervise and provide guidance to Court Referral staff
  • Follow up with constituents regarding complex cases and handle more difficult and/or high-risk clients. Maintain a caseload of high-risk clients.
  • Occasionally supervise youth volunteers as they conduct group service projects.
  • Take responsibility for fees collected by staff from clients on a daily basis.
  • In accordance with alternative service standards and CVNL policies, create procedures that include best practice processes for staff and clients.
  • Work with CLASP partners across California to facilitate efficient case transfers.
  • Facilitate meetings with partners to ensure sustainability and viability of program.
  • Work with staff to maintain an up-to-date database on agencies and clients.
  • Execute strategic goals of the organization as outlined in CVNL’s strategic plan.
  • Provide oversight and checks on different database processes and fiscal processes.
  • Submit timely and accurate reports on contracts.
  • Conduct system evaluations that could include program surveys, staff dialogue, Board recommendations, etc.
  • Participate and support in other CVNL programs and events.
  • Work closely with colleagues to promote the health and sustainability of CVNL.

Other

  • Manage BAUASI contract  deliverables and lead trainings
  • Participate cross functionally on contribution to various grants.
  • Occasionally participate as a trainer/presenter/faculty for various Learning & Leadership courses.
  • As requested take the lead on appropriate Consulting projects.
  • Financial management, including maintaining a pipeline and tracking revenue year over year.
  • Represent CVNL at community events.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, criminal justice or related field.
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish.
  • Three years supervisory experience.
  • Two years direct client work experience.
  • Successfully pass the Sonoma County Probation clearance and Superior Court clearance (required to have access to confidential records).
  • Ability to work in person at the Santa Rosa office during regular business hours.
  • Ability to relate and work effectively with people of all ages from a wide variety of backgrounds, including those with history of substance abuse, those experiencing homelessness, or other client challenges.
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong technology skills including knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with Filemaker Pro, MS Excel, Salesforce or similar CRM database.
  • Experience with analyzing and reporting statistical data.
  • Connections and familiarity with North Bay communities and nonprofits agencies.
  • Experience with conflict management and de-escalation strategies.
  • Ability to understand and implement successful strategies to ensure efficient work processes.
  • Highly communicative and transparent leadership style. 
  • Ability to handle supervisory responsibilities with a high degree of professional standards and maintain a friendly, productive team environment. 
  • A personal commitment to volunteerism to meet community needs and to community service as a desirable sentencing alternative.

Physical & Travel Demands:

  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends to support events/special projects.
  • Travel throughout Sonoma County, to San Rafael office, occasionally work outside.
  • Must have visual acuity; be able to operate a computer and other office equipment; be able to move about inside an office; frequently communicate with others in person, on the phone or via the computer; routinely lift or move items up to 25 lbs.

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule of minimum of 3 days onsite, 2 days remote.

Compensation:
The budgeted starting salary that CVNL reasonably expects to pay is $71,00-82,000 annually depending on prior experience. This takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and external market comparisons for similar positions in similar geographic locations and size. Offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
