Position Summary:

The Community Prosperity Lead will play a pivotal role in empowering local communities to actively shape and benefit from the emerging circular bioeconomy in California’s North San Joaquin Valley. This role is central to BEAM Circular’s mission of fostering inclusive economic growth and environmental sustainability by ensuring that disinvested communities lead and prosper from bioindustrial innovations. The Community Prosperity Lead will oversee the development of Community Benefits strategies, enabling community-based research, education, and engagement to explore and maximize the social, economic, and environmental opportunities within the bioeconomy. As part of this work, the Lead will work closely with BEAM Circular’s Community Partnerships Manager to design and implement a variety of community outreach and engagement activities. The ideal candidate is a dynamic and empathetic leader committed to advancing equity, community empowerment, and sustainable economic development.

Essential Functions:

Community Benefits Program Development:

  • Oversee the design and development of Community Benefits in the Circular Bioeconomy program, focusing on community-based research, education, and engagement initiatives.
  • Establish a community benefits fund to support locally-identified projects, providing seed funding and grants for initiatives within the bioeconomy sector.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders to identify and address barriers to high-quality job access in the bioindustrial manufacturing sector.
  • Incubate innovative models for entrepreneurship and cooperative business development in disinvested communities, with a focus on the circular bioeconomy.
  • Guide strategy for community demonstration projects, such as locally-owned cooperatives, community labs, and on-site energy initiatives.

Community Engagement and Education:

  • Coordinate and lead community outreach and education programs, ensuring materials and resources are accessible in multiple languages relevant to the community demographics.
  • Host and facilitate community conversations and events, providing clear and transparent information about BEAM projects and the regional bioeconomy sector.

Partnership and Collaboration:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local community organizations, stakeholders, and leaders to ensure alignment and collaboration in advancing community prosperity.
  • Serve as a liaison between BEAM Circular and the communities we serve, ensuring that community voices are heard and incorporated into the decision-making process.

Oversight and Accountability:

  • Ensure community oversight and accountability as BEAM projects are developed, incorporating community feedback into program design and execution.
  • Monitor and report on the impact of community-focused initiatives, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.

General BEAM Circular Team Collaboration:

  • Present a positive view of the BEAM Circular to the community.
  • May drive on company business.
  • Comply with all BEAM Circular policies and procedures, including but not limited to workplace safety, reporting work-related injuries, Infection Control, and preventing potential safety risks for staff, clients, and others.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of community engagement practices in diverse and disinvested communities.
  • Experience in developing and implementing community-based programs with a focus on economic and environmental sustainability.
  • Deep knowledge of the North San Joaquin Valley and existing relationships and experience collaborating with organizations, agencies, and communities in the region.
  • Strong facilitation skills with the ability to motivate and empower diverse communities.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including community members, local organizations, and government entities.
  • High cultural competence and sensitivity to the needs of diverse communities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and accessibly.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience in coordinating and executing complex initiatives.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively in developing programs that drive community empowerment and sustainable economic development.
  • Innovative mindset with a focus on creating new models for community benefits and wealth-building in the circular bioeconomy.
  • Passion for advancing equity and inclusion within local communities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where all community members can participate and benefit.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years of professional experience required

Environmental Conditions:

  • Indoors in a typical office environment approximately ninety-five percent (95%) of the time.
  • Frequent computer use at the workstation for up to eight hours.
  • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
  • May occasionally move (walk or drive) from one work location to another.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to walk, sit, stand, stoop, crouch, and climb stairs.
  • Ability to move and lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Visual Acuity (Far/Near).
  • Regular and Consistent Attendance.

Benefits

Compensation:

  • This is a part-time position. Salary range is $45,000-60,000/year for a schedule of 60-80 hours per month.
  • Position based in Modesto; CA. Hybrid work arrangements permitted.
