The Role

An Audio Engineer at Living Room Studios will play a crucial role in supporting lead engineers / producers prior and during recording sessions and post-production. The ideal candidate is a technically skilled audio professional with a deep understanding of signal flow, large format consoles, outboard equipment, microphones and instruments, Audinate Dante, and Dolby Atmos. They must be an adaptive learner, highly organized, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment. The Details
Studio Operations & Maintenance

  • Assist in the daily operations of a professional recording studio equipped with a Neve 88RS console, a comprehensive outboard and microphone collection, and a wide array of instruments and synthesizers, including modular systems.
  • Ensure all audio equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and ready for use. Perform general maintenance and troubleshooting of audio equipment, ensuring all gear is operational and available as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to all safety and studio protocols.

Setup, Teardown & Session Support

  • Assist in the setup and teardown of recording sessions, including complex configurations for bands, orchestras, and solo artists, ensuring all technical requirements are met.
  • Prepare Mix on console prior to bookings
  • Select and manage microphones, cables, and other audio equipment for recording sessions.
  • Provide on-the-fly technical support during recording sessions

Audio Engineering Support

  • Monitor and adjust audio levels during recording sessions to ensure optimal sound quality.
  • Assist in engineering tasks, including mixing, sound editing, and assistance during the post-production process such as editing, mixing, and mastering.

Network Management & Troubleshooting

  • Manage and maintain multiple audio networks including Audinate Dante, LAN, and Dolby Atmos, ensuring reliable and efficient connectivity throughout the facility.
  • Execute high-level routing for assigned productions and troubleshoot any issues.

File Management and System Maintenance: 

  • Assist in the maintenance and management of all studio computers, ensuring they are up to date with the latest software and security updates. Manage all studio files and backups, ensuring they are securely stored and easily accessible when needed.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and organized documentation of session setups, track sheets, signal flow diagrams, equipment configurations, and any technical issues to support future troubleshooting and studio efficiency.
  • Stay updated on the latest audio technologies and best practices to continually improve studio operations.

Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering, Sound Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
    • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in an Audio Engineer or similar audio engineering role, preferably in a recording studio environment.
    • Proficiency with all aspects of the recording process from DAWs to patchbays.
    • Strong understanding of signal flow, microphone placement, and audio equipment operation.
    • Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to rapidly changing situations.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
    • A passion and desire to learn and grow within the industry.
    • Must be available to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, depending on studio operations and project needs.
    • This role involves working in high-pressure environments where attention to detail and adaptive problem-solving are critical.
