Full Job Description
The Bethel Church Accounting and Finance Manager plays an integral role in the day to day operations of the Finance office. The Accounting Manager leads a team of Contributions, Accounts Payable and General Ledger Accountants, works to develop and maintain accounting principles and best practices, has a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), manages the monthly close process, and supports managers across teams with financial procedures and reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement processes for collecting, verifying and reporting financial information.
- Manage accounting staff and assist with accounting human resource objectives as needed, including:
- Recruiting and selecting new team members
- Training, scheduling, coaching, and disciplining employees;
- Communicating job expectations;
- Planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions;
- Enforcing policies and procedures.
- Achieve accounting operational objectives including:
- preparing and completing action plans; implementing a timely monthly close, resolving problems; identifying trends; determining system improvements; completing audits; completing year-end tax filings; implementing and project managing change as needed.
- Assist Controller with project tasks like specific budget investigations, financial analysis etc.
- Communicate with other departments to ensure the accuracy of financial data, researching and interpreting accounting policy and applying observations and recommendations to operational issues as needed.
- Maintain financial security by ensuring compliance with internal controls.
- Avoid legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation, enforcing accounting regulations, and recommending new procedures when necessary.
- Protect the organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
- Update job knowledge by participating in continuing education opportunities.
- Accomplish accounting and organization mission by completing related duties as needed.
Salary Range : $65,000 - $68,000/year
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Accounting
- 5 + years working in the accounting field
- Proficient in US GAAP
- Understanding of the Accounting Cycle
- Experience with financial reporting requirements
- Understanding of Non-Profit ASC a plus
- History managing a staff/team
- Be able to problem solve and identify solutions.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and experience with monthly close and other accounting software
- Attention to detail
- Communication and relationship management skills
- The position is located in Redding, California.
