Organization Overview 

Founded in 2004, Brilliant Corners provides innovative housing and housing-related services to California’s most vulnerable individuals, with an emphasis on those transitioning from, or at risk of, homelessness or institutionalization. We develop, own, and manage multi-family supportive housing and licensed residential care homes. We implement a broad array of scattered-site, one-on-one supportive housing, and clinical case management programs through partnerships with developmental services, homeless services, veterans’ services, and health care sectors.

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager is an integral part of our growing Finance team and will report to the Associate Director. This position will have primary responsibility for managing monthly close and supervising a team of Senior Accountants. This position will have responsibility for all aspects of the accounting cycle and is the primary accounting liaison for multiple departments, co-managing monthly closings and supervising accounting staff. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, a problem-solver, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Position Responsibilities 

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the accounting systems, policies and procedures
  • Compile, analyze and report accounting data for management reports and decision-making
  • Review monthly funder reimbursement invoices for approval
  • Analyze and monitor cash flow for several bank accounts and perform cash balance projections
  • Work with accounting managers to assist with AP, AR, journal entry approvals, property accounting, budget and FP&A
  • Work with program and grant teams and review financial statements
  • Field auditing, reporting and budgeting questions from our internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage and review audit assignments from our government agency and auditing firm
  • Assist and manage the process to develop program, grant and organization budgets
  • Act as liaison with outside auditors and government agencies on contract issues
  • Manage and perform other various accounting activities
  • Manage month-end close cycle and supervise accounting staff
  • Manage payroll accounting
  • Other duties to be assigned

Requirements

Professional Experience

  • 7 to 10 years full cycle non-profit fund accounting experience
  • 2 to 3 years experience supervising accounting staff
  • 2 to 3 years of full budget cycle and payroll, a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP
  • Experience and proficiency with Intacct, Mineral Tree and Adaptive Insights, a plus and Microsoft Office proficiency

  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to articulate goals, develop metrics, and guide staff growth.
  • Effective team leader with strong collaboration skills, excelling in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, managing multiple deadlines efficiently in fast-paced settings.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills, fostering culturally responsiveness and an ability to work effectively in cross-cultural situations.
  • Basic computer knowledge in MS Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel), with knowledge of databases; Salesforce experience is a plus.
  • Thorough understanding of financial analysis, including financial statements, reconciliations, and balance sheets.
  • Discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment, with sensitivity to homelessness and recovery issues.
  • Ability to recognize ability levels of staff, initiate and establish personal growth and career paths for staff, accurately monitor staff performance against objectives and provide feedback and recognition to staff.
  • Flexible, detail-oriented, and capable of independent and team-based work, suggesting process improvements as needed.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, organizational excellence, and a focus on continuous improvement.

Physical Requirements 

Candidates should have physical mobility for tasks such as standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, twisting, and walking on uneven surfaces. They should be capable of performing stationary tasks like sitting for up to 6 to 8 hours a day.  Additionally, candidates should be able to lift, carry, push, pull light to moderate weights up to 15 pounds safely. Requires mental acuity for analytical reasoning and document interpretation. 

 

Salary range for this position is $100,000- $120,000.00 annually. This position is being offered at $100,000- $120,000.00 annually.
