Metal Fabricator

Fabricate and assemble structural metal products, such as frameworks or shells for machinery, ovens, tanks, and stacks, and metal parts for buildings and bridges, according to job order or blueprints.

Job Duties and Tasks:

• Develop layout and plans sequence of operations for fabricating and assembling structural metal products, applying trigonometry and knowledge of metal.
• Locate and mark bending and cutting lines onto workpiece, allowing for stock thickness and machine and welding shrinkage.
• Hammer, chip, and grind workpiece to cut, bend, and straighten metal.
• Verify conformance of workpiece to specifications, using square, ruler, and measuring tape.
• Preheat workpieces to render them malleable, using a hand torch or furnace.
• Position, align, fit, and weld together parts, using jigs, welding torch, and hand tools.
• Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, and drill presses.
• Set up and operate machine tools associated with fabricating shops, such as a radial drill, end mill, and edge planer.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• 3 years previous experience welding and fabricating
• Must be capable of welding up to 18 ga stainless steel
• Able to pass an in-house weld test
• Good vision and hand-eye coordination
• Physical strength and stamina to lift and carry heavy objects
• Ability to use arms, hands, and legs fully, as well as bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and climb as needed
