Job Description: ACT1 Federal is seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to perform Government-directed research and analysis across a range of Arctic and climate security issues. This position supports the Ted Stevens Center for Arctic Security Studies, the newest of six Department of Defense Regional Centers. The ideal candidate will possess an analytical mindset, exceptional research abilities, and the capacity to produce technical, evidence-based reports across a range of Arctic climate and security issues. The researcher will ensure insights gained from research efforts are integrated into Stevens Center educational materials and strategic engagement activities.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinating with the Associate Director, Research and Analysis Division, on project tasks and status; coordinating with other staff and faculty as required.
- Initiating, planning, executing, and closing research.
- Conducting literature reviews, analyzing, and synthesizing data, conducting research, drawing conclusions, and drafting evidence-based reports. Data might inform TSC special reports, or execution of events, seminars, and courses.
- Providing research support to faculty members on Arctic topics (e.g. climate, maritime security, resources, Indigenous Peoples, military force posture, governance, and cybersecurity.)
- Drafting position papers; contributing content to articles for publishing on-line and in the TSC Journal of Arctic and Climate Security Studies.
- Acting as rapporteur at conferences and other meetings.
- Updating faculty and staff on relevant regional developments.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Conduct Government-directed research as noted above.
- Manage all phases of a research project and ensuring timely delivery of products.
- Provide expert advice and support on Arctic security matters; collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead the evaluation, planning and execution of data analysis.
- Advance strategic analytical frameworks and methodologies to enhance collective understanding of Arctic challenges.
- Develop and refine strategic learning initiatives aimed at enhancing situational awareness.
- Foster collaboration; act as a key liaison for disseminating research findings and insights.
Requirements
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in international relations/political science, climatology or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Researcher.
- Strong research, writing and communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of the Arctic region and its security-related issues.
- In-depth knowledge of the impact of climate change.
Preferred:
- Doctorate degree in international relations/political science, climatology or a related field is highly desirable.
- Current status as a doctoral student or candidate in a related field is desirable.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
