Full Job Description
This position is open for a compassionate and dedicated Victim Advocate to join Lifelines Counseling Services on an on-call basis. The work hours will be from 5a to 5p, Monday through Friday. The position will require working up to 25 hours per week during this time. The position allows working remotely but requires being located in Mobile, AL.
Lifelines Counseling Services is a non-profit organization committed to supporting individuals who have experienced trauma. Our mission is to provide assistance, advocacy, and resources to help survivors navigate the healing process. As a Victim Advocate, your role will involve providing crisis intervention, emotional support, and advocacy services to survivors of various crimes, including sexual assault and child abuse. You will collaborate closely with law enforcement agencies, hospitals, and community organizations to ensure survivors receive the necessary support and resources they need.
Responsibilities
- Respond to crisis calls and provide immediate support and safety planning to survivors of crime.
- Accompany survivors to medical exams, police interviews, court hearings, and other appointments as needed.
- Assist survivors in navigating the criminal justice system and accessing legal services.
- Provide emotional support and empowerment counseling to survivors.
- Advocate for survivors' rights and needs within the legal and social services systems.
- Collaborate with community partners to provide comprehensive services to survivors.
- Conduct assessments to evaluate survivors' needs and develop individualized service plans.
- Assist in the development and implementation of programs and initiatives to prevent and respond to violence.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records and case documentation.
- Participate in trainings and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills in victim advocacy.
- Stay up-to-date on relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in the field of victim services.
- Provide support and resources to survivors' families and loved ones.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure a coordinated response for survivors.
Requirements
- High school diploma or its equivalent
- Ability to provide crisis intervention and support to individuals in distress.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and cultural backgrounds.
- Empathy and compassion for survivors of trauma.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines.
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
- Ability to work on-call, Monday through Friday, from 5a to 5p.
