Full Job Description
POSITION GOAL: Must have the ability to perform the required duties of the senior electrical technician on transit/coaches.
SUMMARY – Must have the ability to complete the following: Basic electrical systems and components. Bus systems, communications, and troubleshooting. Electric Bus. Advanced systems and customer options.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Must be able to successfully perform all the essential duties and responsibilities of a Senior Electrical Technician (Journeyperson), and the following.
- Utilize work experience and skills learned to fill in as a Senior Electrical Technician (Journeyperson), anywhere in the department, when normally assigned Electrical Technicians are absent or not available.
- Perform commissioning function on high voltage systems as designated by NF checkouts, SWI’s, and other relevant documents.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving low and high voltage system failures of all types (including related controls and communication systems) using specialized tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of PLC systems including experience reading ladder logic.
- Experience with CAN networks & J1939 communications, including troubleshooting, diagnostics, and corrections.
- Thorough understanding and compliance with high voltage safety protocol and practices.
- Install software, test, diagnose, and repair all Customer Installed Option system issues and confirm functionality. Examples include but are not limited to AVA/AVL systems, Video systems, Destination Sign systems, and NF Connect.
- Work directly with Electrical Tech Apprentices in development and demonstration of Apprenticeship Program competencies.
- Train and/or support electrical technicians.
- Thorough knowledge of NF manufacturing processes.
- Strong instructional, leadership & interpersonal skills.
- Complete the Electrical Technician training program, including all classroom and competency requirements.
- Must be able to work without supervision.
Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing and performing repetitive tasks.
- Lift and move up to 10 pounds regularly, lift and move up to 25 pounds frequently, and lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to bend, stoop and reach.
- Must be able to climb up and down ladders.
- Must have manual dexterity to perform installs/checkouts as directed.
- Must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
- Intermediate level computer skills, and proficient with Oracle
- Strong written and oral communication, strong problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated self-starter, detail oriented and consistent.
- Preferred experience/knowledge in controls systems, IO, Multiplexing, CAN BUS and communication networks.
- High School Diploma, GED, A.A.S in Electronics field is preferred
