POSITION SUMMARY:
The Plant Manager will direct and coordinate all aspects of the Bus Assembly Manufacturing Operations for over 900 team members in a multi-shift operation. This role is critical in ensuring both long-term and short-term production and sales goals are met by setting clear targets and executing strategic actions to drive continuous improvement and optimization of all processes.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Ensure Workplace Safety: Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by actively monitoring safety metrics, promoting best safety practices, and proactively identifying and addressing potential safety issues.
- Manage Daily Operations: Plan, direct, and manage the day-to-day operations of over 900 team members across multiple shifts in the bus assembly plant, ensuring seamless and efficient production flow.
- Achieve Production Goals: Oversee production processes to ensure weekly sales targets, product quality standards, and on-time delivery are met according to the master production and delivery schedules.
- Leadership and Direction: Provide strong leadership to the manufacturing organization, offering daily guidance to Department Managers to ensure alignment with plant goals and objectives.
- Drive LEAN Culture: Foster a culture of LEAN manufacturing, emphasizing continuous improvement, problem-solving, and waste reduction across all manufacturing areas.
- Develop and Mentor Staff: Offer ongoing leadership and mentorship to staff, supporting their development and succession planning to build a strong, capable team.
- Budget Management: Develop, analyze, and maintain operational budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and cost-effective operations.
- Regulatory Compliance: Monitor operations to ensure full compliance with state and federal regulations, maintaining the highest standards of operational integrity.
- Labor Relations: Promote positive labor/management relations by addressing issues promptly and effectively, ensuring a harmonious workplace.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Support and promote the company-wide sustainability pledge, driving initiatives that contribute to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a production environment, with a proven track record of success in managing large teams in a manufacturing setting.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Management, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of plant operations and production methods, particularly within a low-volume and high-mix manufacturing facility.
- LEAN Expertise: Demonstrated experience in implementing and managing LEAN manufacturing principles, with a strong focus on continuous improvement and waste reduction.
- Business Acumen: Adequate knowledge of business and management principles, including budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, and human resources management.
- Safety and Quality Focus: Strong commitment to safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, inventory management, and stewardship processes.
- People Management Skills: Effective people management and decision-making skills, with the ability to attract, coach, develop, and retain top talent.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive attitude, capable of building strong relationships and fostering a collaborative work environment.
