Full Job Description
Symmetrio is recruiting for our customer, a large physician practice, an Assistant Controller who will play a crucial role in the financial management and operational efficiency of the practice. This position involves overseeing the day-to-day accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare finance, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Though this is a hybrid position, the candidate is expected to be in the office 3 days a week and must live in the Tuscaloosa area (or have a reasonable commute).
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and internal policies.
- Monitor cash flow, accounts receivable, and accounts payable, ensuring accurate and timely billing and collections.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for cost control or revenue enhancement.
- Support the development and monitoring of the annual budget.
- Assist in forecasting financial performance and making recommendations for adjustments based on changing conditions.
- Collaborate with department heads to prepare and manage their budgets effectively.
- Maintain and enforce strong internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Assist in the coordination of audits, ensuring that all documentation and processes are in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Work closely with the Controller to improve financial processes and systems.
- Provide financial insights and support to the practice’s leadership team to aid in decision-making.
- Manage and mentor accounting staff, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all financial activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and healthcare financial regulations.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Excel
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
